COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Special Measures

Issued Thursday March 12^th 2020

Dear Parishioners,

Whereas we realise that many of these restrictive measures will make pastoral life more difficult, we have to remember that as a society we have a duty of care to protect ourselves and above all to protect others. 

• Sunday Mass: In the current emergency, all are dispensed from the obligation to physically attend Sunday Mass.
• Sunday Mass: As each of the Sunday Mass attendance exceeds the optimum 100 per gathering, All Sunday Masses are Cancelled.     
• Sunday Closed Mass: We invite parishioners to participate in Sunday Closed Mass @ 11.30am which will be streamlined by our Parish Webcam.  This can be accessed by visiting the homepage of our Parish Website https://rushparish.ie/ and clicking on Parish Webcam or at the following web address https://www.mcnmedia.tv/camera/st-maurs-parish.
• St. Patrick’s Day Closed Mass:  We invite parishioners to participate in St. Patrick’s Day Closed Mass @ 11.30am which will be streamlined by our Parish Webcam.  This can be accessed by visiting the homepage of our Parish Website https://rushparish.ie/ and clicking on Parish Webcam or at the following web address https://www.mcnmedia.tv/camera/st-maurs-parish.
• Weekday Masses: Presently Weekday Masses will continue @9am.

• Baptisms:  Pre-booked Baptisms can take place on condition that attendance does not exceed 100 people inside the Church.
• Confirmations:  All Confirmations are postponed until further notice.  This applies with immediate effect.
• Weddings:  Pre-booked Weddings can take place on condition that attendance does not exceed 100 people inside the Church.
• Funerals:  Every Catholic is entitled to a dignified Christian burial.  Attendance at Funeral services and Masses should be limited to close relatives and must not exceed 100 attendees within the Church building.  Larger gatherings (of up to 500) could take place outside after Mass or at a graveyard.
• Church Remains Open: In these difficult and uncertain times, people find strength, consolation and hope in prayer.  Where possible, Churches should remain open for prayer each day.
• Please Observe: Within Churches it is necessary that people observe a distance of at least one metre from each other.  This is because one of the easiest ways in which the virus is transmitted is through close contact.
• Non- Essential Pastoral Gatherings:  All non-essential pastoral gatherings and meetings, such as formation gatherings, retreats and seminars are cancelled.

 The Annual Novena of Grace in honour of St. Francis Xavier began on March 4^th  and concludes March 12^th . The Novena Prayer will be prayed at all Masses in Rush over these nine days.

• Trócaire Boxes: Primary school children in the Parish will have received a Trócaire Box to take home. For those families who did not receive, boxes are available in the porch at the main entrance of the Church.
• Adoration Every Sunday  of Lent from 2pm to 5pm.
• Lenten Scripture Programme: The programme, during Lent, will be led by Rev. Kieran O’Mahony OSA and will begin on Monday 2nd March in the Bracken Court Hotel, Balbriggan @7.30pm with a cuppa afterwards.  All Welcome.

Irish Blood Transfusion Blood Service mobile unit will be at St. Maur’s GAA Centre on Monday 16^th March from 4.30pm to 8pm. 

Child Safeguarding

For any volunteers who have submitted their application forms for Garda Vetting, please check your emails as the next part of the process  is to complete the online application form. The Garda vetting office are currently sending out emails to the email address provided and the application expires after 30 days.

HSE Coronavirus (COVID-19) Guidance for Religious Services (Last reviewed 27.02.2020)

To Minimise the risk of the spread of the infection, here is a brief synopsis of the HSE Guidelines.  The Archdiocese has asked that all parishes are advised of the following to reduce  the spread of the infection among Church Congregations.

We advise;

1. Members of the congregation not to attend Religious Services it they are ill.
2. That Holy Water Fonts should not be used on entering the Church.
3. The practice of shaking hands on entering Mass should be suspended for both Clergy and Laity.
4. The practice for shaking hands at the Sign of Peace should be suspended.
5. Holy Communion should be administered into the hands only and NOT onto the tongue.
6. The practice of shaking hand on exiting Mass should be suspended for both Clergy and Laity.
7. Holy Water Fonts should not be used on exiting the Church.

These guidelines are subject to review as the situation is constantly monitored by the HSE. These guidelines are not conclusive. Full details are available through HSE Live helpline on 1850 24 1850.

Rush Tidy Towns

are launching a scheme for weekdays whereby we will go on leisurely walks around Rush while picking litter. Volunteers can walk, talk and shoot the breeze as they wander around different parts of Rush picking litter as they go, led by a committee member. All equipment will be provided. The organisation that supports bereaved parents, is holding a Parent Evening for bereaved parents on Wednesday 18th  March at 7:20pm in the Carnegie Court Hotel, Swords, Co. Dublin. This event is free and open to all bereaved parents regardless of the age your child died, the circumstances of their death, or whether their death was recent or not. Age Action

We run computer classes for people over the age of 55.  The classes are one to one – you are placed with your own volunteer tutor who will help to teach you the basic internet such as sending emails, booking tickets or flights, shopping online, Skype, Google etc. For further details please contact us at gettingstarted@ageaction.ie

These dates involve much planning as they synchronise the timetables of our four primary schools, retreat team, coach hire, and Parish.  We ask for your understanding in arranging funerals on the other 5 days each week  during this time. Alliance of the Two Hearts: Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary takes place on Friday 1^st November  commencing with Mass for All Saints Day at 7p.m. followed by Exposition,  Midnight Mass and Exposition again until 3a.m. Please join us for all or part of the Vigil.

• Counselling for couples & individuals experiencing difficulties in their relationships
• A Relationship & Sexuality Programme for schools.

• This weekend we celebrate a Healing Mass for the Sick here in our Church @11.30am .  Anyone, regardless of age, who is ill will be blessed with Holy oil.  In the Letter of St. James is written, “Is anyone among you sick: He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord, the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise them up”. The words of St. James are still true today – the Sacrament of the Sick is the Church’s way to continue the healing work of Jesus. 

Refreshments will be served after the Mass.

The organisation that supports bereaved parents, is holding a Parent Evening for bereaved parents on Wednesday 19th February at 7:20pm in the Carnegie Court Hotel, Swords, Co. Dublin. This event is free and open to all bereaved parents regardless of the age your child died, the circumstances of their death, or whether their death was recent or not. The Confirmation candidates from Rush National School will continue with the Confirmation programme ‘Led by the Spirit’’ on Tuesday 4th February with a Day of Reflection , facilitated by the Julian Prayer Group.  Please keep those preparing for the Sacraments in your prayers – “Come Holy Spirit Fill the Heart of Your Faithful. Amen.”

Arising from this: Each Tuesday from 14th  January to 24th March inclusive, as the Confirmation Retreats take place in the Church, we ask that families be aware that the church will not be available for any other events, including Tuesday funerals. These dates involve much planning as they synchronise the timetables of our four primary schools, retreat team, coach hire, and Parish.  We ask for your understanding in arranging funerals on the other 5 days each week  during this time. Thank you in advance for your co-operation.

We are seeking for volunteers to prepare and display the projector screen at all Sunday Masses especially the 7pm and 9am Masses. If interested please leave your details in the parish office.

28th World Day of the Sick (Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes)

• Next Sunday we celebrate a Mass for the Sick here in our Church @11.30am .  Anyone, regardless of age, who are ill will be blessed by the priest with Holy oil.  In the Letter of St. James is written, “Is anyone among you sick: He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord, the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise them up”. The words of St. James are still true today – the Sacrament of the Sick is the Church’s way to continue the healing work of Jesus. 

Refreshments will be served after the Mass.

• Pope Francis Institutes a new feast day ‘Sunday of the Word of God’. This year we will take the opportunity to celebrate with, and give thanks for the Ministers of the Word who proclaim the Scriptures in reading for us.
• This Sunday also marks the first day for Catholic Schools Week. We welcome St. Joseph’s Secondary School who will join us in prayer and song.

The project brings together children from fifty primary schools of the Archdiocese along with parishioners and choirs to celebrate the gift of one another. Monday 27^th January at 7pm in Church of St Agnes, Crumlin, Tuesday 28^th January at 7pm in Our Lady of Victories Church, Ballymun Road, Wednesday 29^th January at 7pm in Church of the Holy Spirit, Ballyroan, Thursday 30^th January at 7pm in Church of St Pius X, Templeogue. Entry is free.

Irish Hospice Foundation

Overview of Loss and Bereavement Workshop in the  Irish Hospice Foundation Thursday, 30^th  January from 9.15am – 4pm, 32 Nassau Street, Dublin 2. This workshop explores the journey of grief and loss for individuals who have experienced loss in various ways not just through death.
